Hope everyone is ok. I am lucky to have had power the entire time. Last year during the October snow I wasn't so fortunate. I have family evacuated from pier village in long branch, one of the areas hit hard.

My parents finally came to stay with me since they have no power.

Hope others hit by the storm are doing ok.

Please write and let us know or let us know if anyone needs any help.

Susan

Hi Susan,

Thanks for posting that you're doing well - so happy to hear that you have power!   I'm sure that it's also comforting to have your parents with you while services are being restored.

xo,

Melissa

Happy to report that after four days of living by candle light and a diet consisting mostly of canned soup, power returned to my neighborhood on Friday night.

About a half hour before the power returned, the councilwoman representing my ward called to tell me that we wouldn't get power back for another five to six days.  That news really was depressing!  I was texting that information to my neighbors when the lights went on at five minutes to 8.  Go figure!  I'm certainly not complaining.

There are still thousands without power in my township [Old Bridge].

Sadly, there are many whose houses were destroyed and for whom the return to normalcy will take months to years.

Now we have to prepare for another Nor'easter that is due on Wednesday.

Hopatcong was out of power for 10 1/2 days  We were hit pretty hard here.  Hopatcong set up the High School as a Red Cross Center.  There were 350 people sleeping there and more receiving meals.  If you You Tube Hopatcong after Sandy ,there are a few video's to show some of the conditions the town had to live with for a couple of weeks.  I was very lucky there was no damage done to my property.  We were able to hook up a generator and able to get gas for it.  We spent most of the time just camping out for real ( but without bugs and rocks when sleeping).  The schools are still closed and I believe some are opening tomorrow.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the shore people .  Has anyone heard from Bruce Z.?  Hope everybody is safe. I don't want to go through this ever again.

I'm Ok, but it's been a tough two weeks.  When I have the energy I'll write the story.

Glad most of you got through it OK.  We had mostly wind and lots of trees down but fared so much better than others. I did work with the Red Cross in upstate NYLong Island and Booklyn (Brighton Beach).  So many people effected even 6 weeks after the storm.   Bruce, are you and yours OK now?
